The Polk County Sheriff's Office maintains a year around Boat and Water Safety Program. The focus of the program is boating and water safety and awareness.
Responsibility
The Sheriff's Office is responsible for patrolling and rescue operations on the lakes and rivers throughout Polk County. They maintain a fleet of patrol and rescue watercraft along with specific ice rescue equipment.
The Sheriff's Office conducts yearly summer training with the Department of Natural Resources and biennial ice water rescue training.
The Boat and Water Program is funded through a federal grant and local county funds.
